Mark Filer
Director, Head of Structured Finance
I am a Director and Head of LawDeb's Structured Finance businesses having joined LawDeb in 2017.
A Chartered Accountant by training I spent time in practice and industry, in the UK and overseas, working both sides of the fence on securitisations and other structures. I held roles as Head of Finance for a UK Mortgage Lender with a very large securitisation programme. I woked managing corporate services for over 20 years and in that time helped them to resolve many complex issues post-closing for SPVs including issues surrounding the Lehman Bros collapse and challenges to balance sheet insolvency though the UK courts and also discussing accounting treatments with the numerous accounting firms undertaking the audits of the structured finance entities we look after.
Our role is to look after the SPV’s from incorporation to liquidation. Whilst we are not an arranger of transactions or provide advice, we do offer a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with the on-going management of the transactions. If issue arises once the securitisation transactions close, the transaction parties normally turn to the SPV and thus it falls on the corporate service provider to manage and resolve. There is a great amount of variety in the work we do as our clients need solutions to problems old and new and we spend a lot of time talking to new entrants to the market who are keen to discuss how structured finance transactions work and operate in practice.
